Driver Arrested in Fatal Hit and Run

A Kaplan man is behind bars in connection with the hit-and-run that killed a Youngsville cyclist two weeks ago.

State troopers arrested 42-year-old Fitzpatrick Doucette at his home just before midnight last night.

Doucette is charged with negligent homicide, felony hit and run, driving under suspension, and limitations on passing bicycles. Doucette is being held without bond in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

30-year-old Lon Lomas was cycling on LA 92 near Mermentau Road in the early morning hours of July 7 when he was hit by a car and left for dead.

Lomas’s body was found in a nearby ditch several hours later.
