(Jason tested by the ‘master of pain’ Will Jones)
Just to show, Jason is a man of his word!
Besides buying the right material, he’s committed to further his progress.
Last Friday he performed a lactate test,
administered by Will Jones of 4Th Dimension.
Soon Jason Meaux will be a force to be reckoned with!
He had an awesome test result, (topping out @300Watts!).
While there is always room for improvement,
Jason seems to be on the right course of kicking some a$ on the road soon!

Yesterday we had Will Jones of 4th Dimension Fitness administer Lactate Tests at the shop.
The 4 victims encountering a “near death” experience were John Storment, Kyle Love, Ruud Vuijsters and Steven Anson.
The best analogy of the test was given by Kyle:
“It’s like a great ride, finishing with a very nasty climb of a very nasty hill, where you just can’t get out of the saddle or shift gears!”
The test itself takes about one hour, in which Will has one go up in effort (output of watts), in four minute increments. At each increase, blood it taken from a finger tip, heart rate is recorded as is one’s subjective description of performance (measured from ‘no effort to ‘very very hard’). We didn’t get the final results in, but hopefully with the help of 4th Dimension Fitness we can dedicate a post to this, in near future. This test is recommended for any athlete, who wants to get the optimal results from his/her training!

Blood Lactate measurement is used by sport scientists, coaches and athletes to accurately determine Heart Rate training zones, recovery and much more. Lactate is a metabolic product that can be measured by taking a drop of blood at a finger tip the same way diabetics monitor their blood sugar level. The blood lactate level increases with exercise intensity and shows clearly the transition from aerobic to anaerobic activity. Since the measurement is completely individual it gives a precise method for testing and monitoring training intensity and recovery. Blood Lactate testing is far more precise than the outdated and inaccurate method of using percentages of maximum heart rate to set training zones. Because heart rate is an individual response, heart rate training zones need to be determined by measurement of physiological variables not set by mathematical formulas. Furthermore, the relationship between exercise intensity and heart rate is different for different exercises, eg. heart rates for running will not be the same as heart rates for cycling for any given intensity. Training programs should not be based on general heart rate guidelines rather they should be based on individual responses. This can be achieved through lactate testing. How much guesswork are you willing to involve in your training and how much time have you got to waste? Do you want to make sure that what you do works optimally for you? Do you want to make the most of the time that you have available? Now you can optimize and take the guesswork out of your training by using the Lactate Test.

Will Jones has been working in exercise and health for over a decade. He spent time between undergraduate and graduate school working for the Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) in Lafayette, LA. While there, he was responsible for the pre and post operative exercise needs of patients with both cardiac and vascular problems. Upon leaving CIS he served as an Exercise Specialist and Personal Trainer for Ochsner Hospital at the Elmwood Fitness Center in Harahan, LA. He then returned to graduate school at Louisiana State University
where he served on the strength staff for its varsity athletic teams. After completing graduate school, LSU
hired him as a full-time member of the coaching staff. He was directly involved in several Southeastern Conference Championships as well as the National Championship with the LSU Football
team in 2003. While at LSU
he worked personally with several Tiger athletes who have gone on to the professional ranks in football, baseball, track and softball. He also spent two years studying under legendary and hall of fame weightlifting coach Gayle Hatch in Baton Rouge. This study as well as his experience at LSU
where he worked with nationally recognized strength coach Tom Moffitt, established him as an authority in weightlifting and strength and conditioning allowing him to be a featured speaker at the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Sports Specific Conference in Orlando Florida in 2004. He continues speak at clinics around the southeast United States.
