It was a memorable day, a moment of great celebrations and intense emotions.
On May 22nd , Campagnolo celebrated its “first” 80 years of history with an event hosted at the headquarters of Vicenza. A fantastic journey through the history and Campagnolo products, accompanied by Beppe Conti and testimonies and stories of the biggest stars of cycling.
Guests of the day Alfredo Martini with his magical stories, Vittorio Adorni, Jan Janssen, Eddy Merckx, Francesco Moser, Greg Lemond, Miguel Indurain, Alex Zanardi e Fabrizio Macchi.
A parade of champions called to pay tribute to the inventiveness of Campagnolo, undisputed brand in the world of cycling.
But the day was rounded off with an exciting tour inside the factory where the participants were able to admire the details and workmanship of our products, the know-how learned in many years of passion and dedication.
We thank the celebrities, friends and all the guests for having shared with us an exciting day but also an important milestone for all that Campagnolo is.
For the 2014 product line Campagnolo will have a new, streamlined, cyclinder shaped, battery that can be externally or internally mounted. If mounted internally a 7.2mm hole in the frame will be required to accommodate a charging port if the battery is not be be removed for charging.
For external mounting there is a special bracket:

Campagnolo has announced the arrival of an all-new Bora Ultra 35 carbon tubular wheelset that includes both diamond-ground braking surfaces and “Ceramic Ultimate Level Technology” or “C.U.L.T.”

The wheels feature all sorts of high-tech wizardy, starting with those diamond-cut braking surfaces.

As reported by Bike Radar,

“The company claims that this process eliminates impurities that can result from sanding the surface to remove resin.”

Well, at least until you use the brakes for the first time in the wet, in which case you’ll be loading impurities onto the rims faster than you can say “road grit.”

Also of interest is Campagnolo’s use of a dab of extra carbon fiber opposite the valve stem to balance the wheels. Great for riders who regularly go so fast that they can feel their wheels going out of balance, and news to the rest of us who have been riding unbalanced wheels for more than 100 years.

Bike Radar’s writeup (which as of today lacks pricing info … hint: they’ll be expensive) is here.

Campagnolo has launched www.anniversary.campagnolo.com dedicated to the 80th anniversary gruppo. Now it only shows a countdown timer with some 5 days to go.

Anniversary units are expected to begin shipping in March;

pricing has yet to be announced (you know it will be expensive).

Not to be overlooked: two 80th anniversary wheelsets.

A 1,310g carbon wheelset and a 1,590g carbon/aluminum wheelset.
Both featuring 50mm tall aero rims with G3 spoke pattern.

Campagnolo has decided to end all their sportswear activities in order to focus on their core business. There were some discussions by interested parties to obtain a license or purchase the division in order to continue producing  sportswear but Valentino Campagnolo has decided not to sell the company or license the brand name.
