Chris Corbin: "Cell phones don’t work in Lafayette!"
Thanks Chris for your kind words!!
Thanks to my wife, I had the fortunate opportunity to spend the last 48 hours in Lafayette, Louisiana. The food was in a league of its own, the hospitality exceeded expectations, and the authenticity of this Cajun community won my heart. One observation I appreciated most was cell phones don’t work in Lafayette. Yes, Layfatte has cell phone service. But, in comparison to a personal conversation, cell phones don’t stand a chance. Answering that “critical call”, texting, facebooking, tweeting, and checking emails take a backseat to the company you keep. Linsey and I attended multiple social outings and not once did I see someone pull out their cell phone–other than to show pictures of their loved ones (dogs included). This experience reminded me, once again, the importance of personal communication. To many times I believe we worry about the little buzz in our pocket instead of engaging in the conversation. In reality, we are missing out on a much larger opportunity: the person next to us, even if they’re a stranger. Talking. Listening. Expressing. Creating a bond. Making a friend.
I’m guilty of this very act. But after visiting Lafayette, I’m going to work on it. I’m will start leaving my phone in the car–and definitely in my pocket–so I can focus on the greatest form of communication: listening and talking to other people, in person. Thanks for everything Lafayette. Your food and community are amazing.
p.s. Did I mention how good the food is in Lafayette? Wow!

Linsey Corbin; Du-ing it up in New Orleans!
Over the weekend I made my third trip to the New Orleans 70.3. The event is such a great one that I've come back each year to do it again. How come? Well, I love to go fast—and the flat and furious race course provides just the opportunity. I'm also a fan of Southern Hospitality, Cajun cooking, racing in the heat, and great post-race parties. Plus, the finish in the famous Jackson Square is unparalleled.
Chris and I arrived in New Orleans on Friday. The race organizers did a great job treating the professionals right and provided us with accommodation near the Mississippi River (thanks, Ochsner!). This was a great opportunity to catch up with the competition, share some meals, squeeze in some last bits of training, and get ready for the day. With the new points system and a large prize purse on the line, Sunday's race was going to be a stacked one. At the pro meeting on Saturday they mentioned the possibility of the race being a duathlon due to the windy conditions.

Kenya's Mutai wins Boston Marathon in record 2:03:02
2 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds!!
The fastest anyone has ever run the 26.2 mile distance.
The previous best of 2:03:59 was by Haile Gebrselassie in Berlin 2008.
Because Monday's race had a strong tailwind on a downhill course,
Mutai's run is not recognized by track's international governing body as a record.

Cavendish racked up 3rd victory in the Scheldeprijs Classic

- 6th April, 2011 -
A powerful sprint saw HTC-Highroad's Mark Cavendish rack up the third victory of his career in the Scheldeprijs Classic. Cavendish outgunned Russian Denis Galimzyanov and Yauheni Hutarovich of Belarus to claim the victory in the 200 kilometre one-day race in Belgium.
The HTC-Highroad rider has now taken three victories in the Scheldeprijs Classic, the first in 2007 and the second in 2008.
"The team did a perfect job, chasing down the break and then getting me to the front as they always do," a delighted Cavendish said afterwards.
"[Team-mate] Leigh Howard worked very hard in the last few kilometers, then I came past him and went for the win."
"I'm racing a lot this season, and I've had some bad luck, so it's good I can get the wins in, too."
"My next race will be Paris-Roubaix and then I'll build up for the Tour de France, with the Tour of Italy and the Tour de Suisse before then as well."
Following Cavendish's latest win, HTC-Highroad men's team have now taken 20 victories this season. It is Cavendish's second victory of the 2011 season and the 64th road win of his professional career.

Roubaix Recce: Hors Course
To watch a Grand Tour champion escape from the pack and up a mountain is to witness grace, beauty and perfection on a bike. To watch a Classics champion float over the cobbles evokes very different emotions. Riders of the former variety have earned such nicknames as ‘Eagle’ and ‘Angel’, whereas the latter rarely bring out the Romantic poets in their admirers as they pound the cobbles with extraordinary power and determination. The term ‘Raging Bull’ came to my mind after my own baptism of fire in the flames of the ‘Hell of the North’ last weekend.
