Cycling Art by Terri Hill

In the words of Terri Hill:

"I am a native of the Bay Area of Northern California, and have been producing colorful works for the last 33 years with my background in Graphic Design. I began painting in 2003, and have never looked back. I became a full-time painter on New Years Day, 2009

My paintings are known for their rich, saturated color and unusual vantage point. Being a “healthy lifestyle enthusiast,” I paint what I love. You can see the influence of living in wonderful Northern California…it’s pretty obvious that I run, bike, and swim as well as enjoy the wonderful local fruits and vegetables and wines of the area. This area is such a perfect place to be as a painter...the good life is wonderful for creating great art!

I show work at galleries, art and wine events, Open Studios, restaurants, and corporate settings. I give demos and teach workshops on both technique and painting design and am available to jury shows.
You can find my paintings at Viewpoints Gallery in Los Altos (www.viewpointsgallery.com),
and at www.designerhill.com.

Ellis Cycles Frame Building Video: “I can haz lugz”

“Dave Wages builds a frame from Reynolds 953, True Temper S3 and Dedacciai tubing to be displayed unpainted at the 2011 North American Hand Made Bicycle Show in Austin, Texas, February 25-27.”

It seems like every other day some cool, artistically done frame building video comes out.
This detail-oriented piece has it all: fire, files, and, uh…felines.

Precision Bikes Racing Team gets on the Podium in Monroe

The Twin City Cyclists and Vantage Multi-Sport Groups hosted the annual Criterium and Time Trial in Monroe, Louisiana this past weekend. Only 2 representatives of PBR made the long journey; Glenn (>>RR>>) Richard and new team member from New Iberia, LA – Chase Romero. It was a beautiful weekend with temperatures in the mid 70’s – perfect racing weather. The criterium course was a flat and smooth 1 mile long oval loop though a city park with plenty of shade for spectators. First up for Precision was Chase Romero in the Cat 5 division. There were about 20 people in the field – rather small – but a good race nonetheless. Chase did his best to keep his nose out of the wind and stayed with every acceleration until it was down to just him and another Canes rider for the sprint finish in which he sealed a solid 2nd place spot. Not bad for climbing aboard a road bike just last year! Next up was Glenn in the 1-2-3 field with about another 20 riders. Only one big name to make mention of was Ben Gabardi, a current member of the Garmin-Slipstream development squad. The first 2 laps were brutal - hitting in excess of 32mph on the back sides. I (glenn) began to question my conditioning at that point – but kept on pushing and jumping on every acceleration. Ben laid down 2 monster attacks that really hurt me to stay on his wheel and I knew at that point he was on his game. On the bell lap, everyone was jockeying for position before the final turn – so I had to eat some wind to keep a decent position for the sprint. I wanted Ben’s wheel but there were others with the same idea. I was 2 bikes behind him and he got a really good jump coming out of the final turn and I knew I had some catch up to do – but could not catch him and missed him by a wheel for 2nd place. I think I died right after that. The time trial was a 12 mile out and back. Chase was the first one off and he knocked out a 31:36 for a solid 3rd place position. Glenn made a rookie mistake and missed his start time by a minute fifteen. I didn’t feel too motivated after that but put in a decent effort anyway. Oh well – not a bad start for Precision Bikes Racing for 2011. Myself and the sponsors hope to see more of you for the Rouge Roubaix in 2 weeks!

Dario Pegoretti at the NAHB Show

The 2005 North American Handmade Bicycle Show was the original event that brought together handmade bicycle frame builders.

Since that first show, NAHBS has unified and galvanized the handmade bicycle industry, and it remains the most widely accessible physical access point to the frame builders themselves.

The show began as, and remains, the largest and most important gathering of custom bicycle builders anywhere in the world. It features all conceivable types of bicycle: Some dazzlingly beautiful, some you thought might have been impossible to build, some very fuctional and utilitarian, and others that are simply classics of their genres.'

Lance Armstrong Calls It Quits... Again

Lance Armstrong is retiring again -- this time for good.

Almost a month after finishing 65th in his last competitive race in Australia, and nearly six years removed from the last of an unprecedented seven straight Tour de France titles, the 39-year-old cyclist made clear there is no reset button this time.

Family Weekend Ride

Want to share your love of cycling with your kids or grandkids?

Then (get your grown-up group ride ya ya's out in the morning, if necessary, and) join us this Saturday for a ride from Acadiana Park in Lafayette to Poche Bridge campground near Breaux Bridge.

It's a 9 mile out and back ride, with overnight tent camping in between, and a playground at beginning and end. Plan is to meet at the park for noon on Saturday, get organized, and pedal north by 1 p.m. Then, dinner, campfire, smores, stargazing...breakfast, break camp and pedal back for midday Sunday.

See route here

Weather predictions are partly cloudy with lows in the mid 50s and high near 70 Saturday and Sunday. Full moon on Friday night. Can't get better than that.

Tandems, trail-a-bikes, child trailers, child seats, or big kid bikes, you name it, it's welcome.

Carbon fiber, tri, and time trial, not recommended.

DON'T worry about having to be "self-contained" either, we have a driver to haul camping gear.

Please contact Jen at jen.steele@lusfiber.net or 337/233-9627 in advance to coordinate plans.
