Miller Killer spotted in Lafayette, LA!!!

The Twin City Cyclists and Vantage Multi-Sport Groups hosted the annual Criterium and Time Trial in Monroe, Louisiana this past weekend. Only 2 representatives of PBR made the long journey; Glenn (>>RR>>) Richard and new team member from New Iberia, LA – Chase Romero. It was a beautiful weekend with temperatures in the mid 70’s – perfect racing weather. The criterium course was a flat and smooth 1 mile long oval loop though a city park with plenty of shade for spectators. First up for Precision was Chase Romero in the Cat 5 division. There were about 20 people in the field – rather small – but a good race nonetheless. Chase did his best to keep his nose out of the wind and stayed with every acceleration until it was down to just him and another Canes rider for the sprint finish in which he sealed a solid 2nd place spot. Not bad for climbing aboard a road bike just last year! Next up was Glenn in the 1-2-3 field with about another 20 riders. Only one big name to make mention of was Ben Gabardi, a current member of the Garmin-Slipstream development squad. The first 2 laps were brutal - hitting in excess of 32mph on the back sides. I (glenn) began to question my conditioning at that point – but kept on pushing and jumping on every acceleration. Ben laid down 2 monster attacks that really hurt me to stay on his wheel and I knew at that point he was on his game. On the bell lap, everyone was jockeying for position before the final turn – so I had to eat some wind to keep a decent position for the sprint. I wanted Ben’s wheel but there were others with the same idea. I was 2 bikes behind him and he got a really good jump coming out of the final turn and I knew I had some catch up to do – but could not catch him and missed him by a wheel for 2nd place. I think I died right after that. The time trial was a 12 mile out and back. Chase was the first one off and he knocked out a 31:36 for a solid 3rd place position. Glenn made a rookie mistake and missed his start time by a minute fifteen. I didn’t feel too motivated after that but put in a decent effort anyway. Oh well – not a bad start for Precision Bikes Racing for 2011. Myself and the sponsors hope to see more of you for the Rouge Roubaix in 2 weeks!
