Tour de France champion Alberto Contador tests positive for stimulant

The sample was taken during this year's race. He has scheduled a news conference is scheduled for Thursday and is expected to explain how clenbuterol got into his system.

Reigning Tour de France champion Alberto Contador tested positive for the banned stimulant clenbuterol during this year's race, a spokesman confirmed Wednesday. The Spanish cycling star has scheduled a news conference for Thursday in his hometown of Pinto.

A statement from the spokesman, obtained by Cycling News and VeloNews, said the three-time Tour winner has consulted experts who "agreed … this is a food contamination case."

Clenbuterol, used by asthma patients, is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of banned substances and is also banned by the international cycling organization that sets Tour anti-doping rules.

John Cobb at the Wind Tunnel

October 11th and 12th John Cobb will be testing at the Wind Tunnel at College Station.
Two spots are open at a price of $1500.
There is no better way to get dialed in on a TT Bike.
Sure we all think we know what is fast or aero but the Tunnel numbers don't lie.
John will position you on your bike and make several runs in the tunnel
in order to get the best drag numbers for you.
Call me at the shop if you have any questions.
Thanks, Mark

Gold Medalist Sheila Taormina

Sheila Taormina was kind enough to stop in Lafayette and put on two swim stroke clinics at Red Lerille's Tuesday.
Classes filled fast and Sheila was a great teacher and speaker.
Her new book "Call the Suit" is now published and really gets to the point on what it takes to Get Fast. Sheila brings a ton of energy and motivation to the table.
Good luck Sheila on the rest of your trip.
My girls loved her too!

2010 UCI Road World Championships

The 2010 UCI Road World Championships in Melbourne and Geelong – which begin on Wednesday with the Under-23 and Women’s time trial events – will undoubtedly be greeted with the same whole-hearted enthusiasm, even euphoria, which currently surrounds Australian cycling.

Situated on the bay of Corio, about 70km from Melbourne, Geelong – a small touristic spot which has already organized a round of the UCI Women Road World Cup – will be at the heart of the event.

Only the last race of these Championships, the one which will award the most coveted rainbow jersey of the week and which will be raced for the first time without the help of earpieces, will set off from Melbourne, before attacking the beautiful and demanding Geelong circuit which the riders will have to cover 11 times, for a total distance of 262,7km.

Switzerland’s Fabian Cancellara, who will attempt to win his fourth title in the time trial event, Spain’s Oscar Freire, who dreams of becoming the first rider in history to win the World Championships road race four times, the Italian Filippo Pozzato, who won the “rehearsal” on Sunday in Ballarat, and the Belgian Philippe Gilbert are the main favourites – along with Britain’s Mark Cavendish and the Norwegian Thor Hushovd – to succeed Cadel Evans. Meanwhile the Australian will give his all in front of his own public in order to honour the gold medal he won in 2009.

In the women’s race, the person to watch could well be the German Trixi Worrack, who was victorious in the preparation race.

The schedules (local time, Melbourne/Geelong):
Wednesday, 29 September
Men U23 Time Trial, 31.8 km, 1000 to 1405; course details
Women Elite Time Trial, 22.9 km, 1500 to 1650; course details

Thursday, 30 September
Men Elite Time Trial, 45.8 km, 1300 to 1735; course details

Friday, 1 October
Men U23 Road Race, 159 km, 1300 to 1715; course details

Saturday, 2 October
Women Elite Road Race, 127.2 km, 1300 to 1635; course details

Sunday, 3 October

Interbike 2010 - Scott Plasma 3

Here are some reviews...

Interbike 2010 - Louis Garneau Vorttice

All triathletes and time trialists are constantly looking to shave drag resistance in effort to produce quicker times. Well, here is a new helmet called The Vorttice, from Louis Garneau, that is supposed to help in this area!

Notice the common dimples in the front, but a shortened tail that is covered by a plastic plate on the underside. Garneau has termed this section the 'Evacuation Channel' which is supposed to move air through/around the helmet's dimensions effortlessly.

There has been some buzz among the helmet manufactuers that a rounder helmet coupled with a shorter tail (or lack of tail all together) may be the future standard!

Please visit this link, which shows why Louis Garneau thinks this will be a revolutionary helemt. Should arrive at PB sometime in the spring of 2011.

Interbike 2010

Quintana Roo and the folks over at ABG have come up with a new potential bike. Notice the missing seat stay?

Interbike 2010

I never expected to see a tandem banana seat bike in the back of the shop, but one never knows what to expect when Josh gets the hankering to build one of his "custom" builds.

I think we found the next bastard bike Josh will attempt to construct...

Interbike 2010

Mr. Cobb, always a mover and a shaker, has brought a new seat to the market while at Interbike this year.

His new Mountain Biking Seat...

Interbike 2010

As always, Campagnolo always provides an amazing product that will provide you with the best of the best.

Below you will notice that they have updated their groupos and added some new colors to their Super Record 11 line.

Here is a taste of what's to come...

Interbike 2010

Don't want to spring for the high costs of Zipp technology? Well, Mark has found a potential answer for you this year.

Mark, and two of his valued customers, have recently tested varied wheelsets from American Classics.

Results? Mark has found a great product (including a very stout disc) that rests at a fantastic price point, but gives you the reliability and styling that only the best require.

Check it...

How can you not love Zipp Wheels?

I know I'm partial since I own two sets of Zipps, but rest assured, everyone will have their chance to order a set in 2011.

Interbike 2010

As always, Mark spends copious amounts of time meeting with vendors trying to work the best deal possible so we can have great gear to choose from at the shop.

Make no mistake, it is exciting and quite enjoyable to attend Interbike, but Mark meets with vendors from 9:00am - 6:00pm choosing (and paying for) his 2011 inventory. He never takes these meetings or inventory selections lightly and seems to constantly mention what specific riders back home would love to see.

Here is Mark and Will Jones examining Mavic's 2011 line. Precision Bikes always has supplied Mavic products, and let me tell you... these new wheels are looking great!

Interbike 2010

Well here is your first glimpse into Interbike 2010 from the eyes of Mark Miller's Precision Bikes Gang.

We have been enjoying the all of the new products and long days sifting through the vendors in effort to bring some exciting new items home to the shop for you to enjoy.

Unfortunately, Ruud "The Webmaster" Vuijsters, has been a rare attendee to the show this year since he is at an annual PT conference. Therefore, you will will get your Interbike fix from The Rhino this year.

And who better to start this post off than yours truly...

I have been attacked by a vicious case of the gout, which has kept me relegated my temporary granny machine. Yes, you are allowed to laugh as loud as humanly possible!

Successes continue for Taylor Phinney and Ben King at U.S. nationals

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- What transpired this weekend at the U.S. national road cycling championships wasn't so much a changing of the guard as a non-violent coup d'état.

Trek-Livestrong's Taylor Phinney and Ben King, a combined age 41, overthrew their elders in two extraordinary -- and extraordinarily different -- races that made everyone forget about a field somewhat depleted by end-of-the-season fatigue and indifference.

The time trial won by Phinney had a mere 15 entrants, but everyone knew it boiled down to an even smaller match race between him and RadioShack's Levi Leipheimer. Phinney, starting second-to-last, buzzed by his three-minute man and stopped just past the finish line to watch the digital timer tick down his fate. He wound up winning by the narrowest margin in the event's 25-year history -- 0.14 seconds, a mere push of the pedal.

Colnago World Cup Cross

Retail price: $1875.=

Our entry level cycle-cross bicycle, World Cup brings Colnago toughness and handling for the winter mud at a price everyone can afford.

Clean lines and simple tube shapes make for a cycle-cross classic with plenty of room for the mud of Belgium or Oregon.

Double butted 6000 series aluminum tubes are light but strong for those inevitable cyclo-cross crashes and shaped for greater stiffness at the joints.

Dependable Shimano 105 components and tough Shimano WH-R500 wheels keep it all rolling in the filthiest conditions.

It all adds up to a robust, reliable, truly Colnago cycle-cross bicycle at a very affordable price.

Updated Scott Guidry Saturday Ride

Scott has updated his route a little, we will leave Red's just after 6 and head towards Maurice, once past Maurice we will take it into Kaplan and then head towards Church Point. Stops in CP will include Sonny's for something fried and then to Votreaux's for a Boudin Ball, fried of course. Next stop will be Sunset and Grand Coteau. From there we will take it into Breau Bridge for the usual beer stop before heading home. The beer stop is a Smitty tradition, re-hydrate for the last 10 miles. All of you guys training for late season IM's, this is the ride for you.(Dave Suter). See you Saturday morning.

Colnago Super

Size 43 and retail is $1875.=

Inspired by track bikes of the 1980s and the fashion for simple urban bicycles,

the Super combines Colnago craftsmanship with street style.

The classic lugged steel frame harks back to Colnago’s artisan heritage.

Chrome plating highlights the head lug and the crown of the straight-bladed fork.

Tight geometry gives sharp handling for zipping through city streets and Colnago quality copes with the potholes of the city roadscape.

A flip-flop hub lets you choose between fixed gear for the ultimate melding of rider and machine or singlespeed freewheel for days when it’s nicer to coast along.

Scott Guidry's Saturday ride

Looks like Scott will take over the ride this Saturday, more details will follow but you know we will be heading towards Church Point. Should get 100 miles in, Ironman Florida right around the corner.

Precision Bikes Racing Team End of Season Report

First of all I would like to thank everyone for a successful 2010 road racing season - particularly Nick "fixie" Smith for taking home the overall and district criterium title for Category 4. Way to go man. Our race in July went extremely well with everyone from the area doing particularly well....Jacob, Adam, Tony, Jed, Nick, -- just covering podium spots! We will deplete the account as always towards race reimbursements. If you raced less than 3 times this year, you will be excluded to cover those that raced more often. We did not have enough funds to cover everyone, due to the massive expense of the Vuelta this year. For every race you entered, you will be given 10% towards your total race investment. If you raced 5 times and spent 100$, that's 50% and you will get back 50 bucs. If you raced 10 times and spent 500 bucs, you will get back 500 bucs. I kept track of all race attendees and the race entree fees. It pays you to race folks, that's what this is all about - getting out there and competing while wearing the team jersey so our sponsors get the visibility they are paying for! I will be calling each and everyone of you to confirm your address. On a side note, those of you who want to start getting in a good base early this winter, see Mark Miller's Precision Bikes for some mountain bikes; there are at least 6 of us that will be doing this all winter long and we are all hooked! As always, anyone who is remotely interested in racing, please send them my way. Anyone who wants race benefits and be a part of the team must race in a current uniform and possess a current USCF license. We will probably put in the uniform order for 2011 in January. Do not miss this opportunity. The first order will be sold to everyone at cost plus shipping and tax. Any later orders will be sold from Marks store at his discretion. Once again, thanks to all of you for being a part of the Precision Bikes Race Team -
I hope to see you on the road! Take care ......... Glenn.. aka..>>RR>>

Tomorrow we'll ride

We'll be riding tomorrow,

Expect Carbon Bike Prices to Go Up....A Lot

The three main suppliers of carbon fiber,
Toray Industries, Inc., Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd., Toho Tenax Co.
have increased their price a huge 66% according to news coming out of Eurobike.

It’s not yet clear how this will affect the 2011 prices for carbon fiber frames, forks and other bike components but this new price development will surely have a big impact.
Pinarello, as an example, uses Toray fibers.

This may be the best time to go out and buy that 2010 Italian bike you have been lusting after.

Eurobike was huge: 41,482 trade visitors from 102 countries.
An additional 22,300 cycling fans attended today’s "Public Day";
1,732 journalists from 35 countries were also there to cover the event.
