Help Wanted....

I’m trying to figure out who is upset here and at what. Is it the first guy with his attack on Jonathan? Is it the guy that ran to Jonathan’s defense attempting to make him fell better about the first guy’s comments, while at the same time getting mad at Ruud for a post he made,…. And getting mad at Mark for letting Ruud take care of his blog? Or, is it the guy on the Cervelo? I know the Earth Shattering guy is mad. I know Cole is not mad. Ruud is probably upset because his day was interrupted. Mark is probably upset because Ruud was hurt by the words of the Earth Shattering guy. Jason Meaux is mad because he hurt his back again by ducking from the mud being slung around. Charlie Kibbe is mad because there was a guy doing the Time Trial on a motorcycle and he didn’t get to see it. It’s completely obvious they upset Smitty. He was over it but now he’s mad at Ruud for posting his DNF last week.

It goes to show you how the SINGLE ACTION of one person making a negative comment about someone can unleash a barrage of attacks on a number of people causing MORE harm than they originally INTENDED. I hope one lesson was learned here. (Think before we speak.)

Thanks Mark and all the folks at Precision

Precision Bikes Webmaster

As a response to the comments posted this morning on the LAMBRA\USAC ITT CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS:

My name is Ruud Vuijsters, PT, I have, more or less taken it upon myself, with Mark Miller's approval, to run www.precisionbikes.com in a 'blog' format.
Never have I proclaimed to do a perfect job.
I am a PT by profession, the posting is just a hobby.
The purpose of the site is to keep customers and all whom take interest in the sport of cycling\triathlon\ironman\running informed of the happenings at the shop, events to take place, with subsequent results, and generalized news in the world of our sports, to the best of my abilities.
Being a avid cyclist and huge fan of the sport, does not mean that I know all the local athletes. This has resulted in the past that athletes names sometimes were not included in the total finishing list.
When brought to my attention, corrections were always made, again, to the best of my abilities!

What has happened today would result in division, rather than a uniting of our athletes in this area. That is not what Mark Miller's Precision Bikes or the webmaster are about.

After discussion late this afternoon, we have come to the conclusion that Precision Bikes reserves the right to remove any inflammatory comments, especially with name calling, posted anonymously, ASAP.
When this behavior will continue, Precision Bikes feels forced in future, to screen\approve of comments, before published.

So sorry a simple post has lead to so much negativity!

Kind regards,
Ruud Vuijsters, P.T.

BunchRideFinder Website Finds You A Group Ride Anywhere In The World, Sortof....

ridefinder

This website, BunchRideFinder.com.au, claims to help you find a group ride in your area.
You can choose a road ride, mountainbike ride, or track session on the menu bar and then select which country you are interested in riding.
There is also a world map selection that lets you see rides pinpointed allover the world.
The only problem with this site is the lack of group rides to choose from.
It’s a nicely designed site, pleasant on the eyes and pretty easy to navigate.
If you’re interested in putting your group ride on this site, you can click on the ‘add a ride’ button at the top of the screen and submit your regular group ride.
Who knows, it could become a sort of “exchange program” for cyclists to find a group ride while away from home.

The deadline for registration for the 2010 L'Eroica is 6 September.

The deadline for registration for the 2010 L'Eroica is 6 September. Four routes of 38, 75, 135, and 205 km are available. L'Eroica is held on 3 October and a large vintage swap meet is held the day before .

L'Eroica an event that relives the heroic age of the "Giants of the Road". Participants ride on vintage racing bicycles and wearing the wool jerseys of bygone eras through some of the most beautiful roads of Chianti, Valdarbia and Valdorcia, with many sections of unpaved surfaces ("strade bianche", gravel & shale roads) which makes it possible to relive the atmosphere of "heroic" times of cycling.

Over the last few years the organizers permitted all types of bicycles and particpation grew to 3,000 cyclists. The organizers decided, in 2009, to re-impose rules permitting only vintage bikes All riders must now start only with historical bikes; this "means road race bikes built before 1987, with switch lever on the oblique loom tube, toe clips and belts, external brake wires."

Landis’ BMC Mountain Bike Sells for $5 at Kentucky Yardsale

Photo c. www.ultrarob.com

Think you got a deal on your last bike? How about finding an XTR equipped BMC Fourstroke at a yardsale marked for 5 bucks? Hard to believe, yes, but it happened.
According to the Associated Press, Greg Estes of Owenton KY, picked up the bike for a measley $5 planning on reselling the bike for a couple hundred and attempting to make a profit. Greg knew the bike was worth more than $5 even with two flat tires, but had no idea just how much. The bike was custom built by Cyco-Path Bicycles out of Temecula, Calif., near San Diego specifically for Floyd Landis to race in the 2007 Leadville 100. Obviously the bikes value is closer to $8,000 or roughly 1600 times what Estes paid for the BMC.
The strange part about the story is that Estes offered the seller of the bike a percentage of the profits if he is able to sell it, but the seller denied stating “finders-keepers.” Stranger still is that apparently the seller claims to have just “found” the bike on the side of a highway in Kentucky. So I suppose it could have been the result of bike rack failure, or the product of a new highway initiative utilizing expensive bikes as mile markers.
Either way, Landis has not been able to be reached for comment while all of this comes on the heels of his broad doping allegations in the world of competitive road cycling.

Lance Armstrong a ‘Person of Interest’ in Growing Federal Doping Investigation

The AP reports that Lance Armstrong is a “person of interest” in the federal doping investigation that’s slowly but surely heading toward a Federal Grand Jury Hearing.

Where it goes after the initial hearing is anyone’s guess, but Armstrong’s former teammates George Hincapie and Tyler Hamilton have been contacted, as have his primary sponsors Trek Bicycles and Nike, both of whom are said to be cooperating.

The lead investigator is none other than Jeff Novitzky, who is credited with uncovering baseball’s steroid era via the BALCO investigation and sending Marion Jones to prison and landed perjury charges against Barry Bonds.

The case started with an investigation into doping supplies found in a vacant apartment used by Kayle Leogrande of Rock Racing. From there, it blew up on the public scene when Floyd Landis emails were leaked to the press and contained accusations against Armstrong and many other top names on the former Postal squad.

The case will proceed slowly. In order to bring in someone with Armstrong’s personality, credibility (no failed drug tests) and wealth, not to mention his pride, all the ducks must be in a row. Hurting the case is that subpoenas are in the hands of known detractors Landis and Greg Lemond, and Landis’ history of denial then coming clean likely won’t play well in front of a jury.

According to one of our buddies over at Outside Magazine, because of some riders’ involvement with the quasi-governmental Post Office, any perjury or transport, sale or use of illegal drugs while receiving money from Postal could mean really big trouble if it violates RICO laws.

Time will tell, and the case could take until next year before it’s even heard in front of the Grand Jury, and that process could take months. Armstrong’s lawyer, Tim Herman, says many of Landis’ claims are beyond the government’s jurisdiction to investigate and involve alleged acts that occurred more than five years ago and in other countries.

At any rate, it’ll be very interesting to see what statements come from so many professional cyclists, many with stellar reputations, during the process.

Lance Armstrong not racing the 2010 Leadville

Defending champion Lance Armstrong will not start the Leadville Traill 100 this year. Armstrong decided Monday to pull out of the high-altitude mountain bike race. His manager Mark Higgins told VeloNews that Armstrong was still feeling the effects of the Tour de France, during which he crashed a few times.

“He is still suffering from a nagging injury to his hip from the Tour de France,” Higgins said. “His girls will also be in Aspen with him this weekend so he will be staying at home.”

Armstrong won last year’s event in a record time of 6:28:50. Six-time race winner Dave Wiens finished second. A stacked field is still expected for the Leadville 100 this year.

As for Armstrong, Higgins says the Texan has no other races on the calendar as of now for 2010, but he will participate in two Livestrong events – a Philadelphia ride on August 22 and the Austin Challenge in October. And on September 26, Armstrong will do the fundraiser ride for Aspen’s Wapiyapi, a non-profit that offers free, weeklong camps to children with cancer and their families.

Rumor: Campagnolo Electronic Shifting Release

The Campy Only blog has this to say:

"We're hearing rumors that Campagnolo's electronic shifting gruppo will finally be available for sale as part of the 2011 lineup. Rumor has it that the long-awaited electronic system will be premiered for selected industry insiders at Eurobike (1-4 September). No word yet on whether it will be released as 10S or 11S, or what the price will be. (We've predicted here for years that Campagnolo will sell every single electronic gruppo they sell, regardless of price--there are that many cash-rich Campy fans out there.) Campagnolo's electronic gruppo has been dangling in front of the cycling world like a carrot on a stick for almost a decade, disappearing for a while before resurfacing at some obscure Belgian road race long enough to keep the rumors going. Needless to say, the Campy Only staff is not holding its collective breath."
