GoRide; iPhone Bike Mount by Bicio

Bicio recently launched their iPhone mount for the bike called the GoRide.

It uses a case for the phone (that can be left on as a protective case) that mounts into a bracket that’s zip-tied to your handlebar, stem or frame. It’s designed to hold it securely and within easy viewing and reach, and the design is open so that you can easily control the phone.

At $29.95 USD MSRP, it’s the least expensive mount we’ve seen that’s made specifically for bicycles, and you can get additional brackets for $9.99 so you can easily swap between two or more bikes.

Team Shack 2010

Team RadioShack - Roster Complete

23rd November 2009 – Johan Bruyneel, 2010 Team RadioShack manager, finalized the team roster. Team RadioShack, with seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, will count on 26 riders coming from 16 different countries.

“It is a well balanced team”, comments Johan Bruyneel. “We have experienced riders - with some of them I worked already many years in my former teams – but we also have young talents who can develop in the perfect environment. I am happy that our sponsors want to invest in the future of cycling. Our main goal will be the Tour de France and other stage races but I am confident that, with these riders, we can perform very well in the one-day races as well. I look forward to the new season with Team RadioShack and our first training camp.”

Title sponsor RadioShack Corporation looks forward to the 2010 season as well. "Johan and Lance have methodically assembled an enviable team of riders and staff as strong as any on the Pro Tour, and we are confident that Team RadioShack is positioned for tremendous success in 2010", said Lee Applbaum, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of RadioShack Corporation.

Contador Signs Deal with Specialized, Will Likely Remain At Astana

Gazzetta dello Sport reports today that Alberto Contador will remain with Team Astana for the coming season. The Spanish two-time Tour winner also signed a deal with Specialized. The American company will furnish bikes for Contador and pay him 700,000 euro for the privilege. Contador signed the deal in Madrid at the main offices of the Specalized importer in Spain, and the contract runs one year with an option to renew. Gazzetta suggests that a deal between Astana and Specialized, who also provides bikes to Quick Step and Saxo Bank, is in the works, but is not yet complete. It is possible that Contador and his team-mates could ride different equipment during the coming season, if Astana and Specialized do not come to terms.

On Friday, the UCI is expected to confirm the pro tour license for Astana. According to Gazzetta, Contador is already thinking of future seasons, and though the Italian paper does not name its sources, Gazzetta appears quite convinced that it is a done deal between Contador and Astana. To buy out his existing contract, Contador would need to pay Astana 2 million euros, a requirement reportedly not changed by the team's license status. Gazzetta also dusts off the Ivan Basso to Astana rumor and suggests that Contador is planning to bring the Italian to the team in 2011. There is reportedly a close friendship between the riders (who knew?), and their representatives have already been in contact about a possible transfer.

But all that is for the future. At last we may have come to the end of the ridiculously drawn-out negotiations over Contador's future. He will ride for Astana on Specialized bikes. The end?

The Men With the Most Kilometers

A few days ago Silence Lotto team manager Marc Sergeant complained that riders are riding too much in a season. Now the numbers have been confirmed by Cycling Quotient. Cycling Quotient's methodology for counting kilometers is: Only races of .1 or above category and finished races are counted.

Outside the top 10: Cunego 11th, Ivan Basso 25th. Also of interest: the 41st place by World Champion Cadel Evans, Andy Schleck at 249th and Alberto Contador at 372nd place with "only" 9.865 kilometers.

3T ZEFIRO Road Bars

ZEFIRO fuses the power and control of the road racer’s drop bar with the low-drag form of the chrono rider’s aerobar. The base unit combines the variable-radius, medium-drop bends of ERGOSUM with the aero wing of MISTRAL. Additionally, it has the unique Pi Wing™, an adjustable forward extension with an aerofoil handrest. The rider’s forearms rest on broad silicon pads on the basebar’s upper surface, while the hands and wrists fall into a natural, ergonomic position on the handrest. The result is a hybrid that provides super comfort for long solo efforts into the wind, and full control for out-of-the-saddle efforts in the bunch. This innovative new bar meets all current and anticipated rules on aero form in both ProTour and ITU codes and is currently being trialed by pro teams. It should also bring performance and comfort benefits to amateur century and sportive riders and triathlon contestants.

Fossati Titanium Chain

Uploaded from: Italian Cycling Journal ->
Thought our CAT3 Champ Jed Darby might be interested in this....
Here is a Fossati branded (on the side plates) titanium chain found with a NOS (New Old Stock) 1977 Super Record gruppo. At 226 grams this chain weighs less than current Super Record 11 speed chains that weigh in at 242 grams.

The Vittorio Fossati company is the company that manufactured the EVEREST brand of chains. While EVEREST chains are well known, Fossati branded chains are a rarity. The Vittorio Fossati company was founded by Vittorio Fossati at the end of World War I, concentrating its activities in the industrial sector of small and medium chains.

Floyd Landis up for grabs...

Momentum Sports Group (MSG) and Floyd Landis have mutually agreed to terminate Landis' Rider Agreement and thereby release both Landis and MSG from their respective obligations under the Rider Agreement for the remainder of the 2009 and 2010 racing seasons.

3296175555_8e2ae093c9_m_mediumLandis returned from a well-documented serious hip injury and subsequent hip resurfacing procedure to assist MSG's professional cycling team in winning the Nature Valley Grand Prix, The Tour of Elk Grove and the Joe martin Stage Race during the 2009 season. For the 2010, Landis expressed to MSG that he desires to ride the longer, tougher stage races offered in Europe and Internationally that better suits his strength. Accordingly, given the MSG will be focusing its 2010 racing season primarily in the United States, MSG and Floyd mutually agreed it be best for both parties to part ways, so that Floyd can seek a position with a team that better can accommodate his desires.

John Cobb Saddles

V-Flow Max

Photo: Cobb Cycling

The V-Flow is a design that has been proven at the highest levels of professional triathlon and one that Cobb has been manufacturing and selling for over 10 years. In a press release, he talks about the process and theory of the V-Flow saddles. “I made the rear of the saddle narrower so that riders could position themselves properly on the back of it and not slide forward onto the nose. Then I created a pressure-relief trough in the center part of the seat so that riders could comfortably rotate their pubic bones (pelvis) forward for better posture and leverage, positioning the soft tissue into the pressure-relief cutout.”

C-c-cold gear: The HC170 is lightweight and minimalist, geared for racers.
The HC170 is lightweight and minimalist, geared for racers.

The Max saddle is extensively shaped and shortened to maximize bloodflow to the gluteus and hamstring muscles. One feature of the Max saddle is higher density foam. “Ongoing testing with riders who spend a lot of time on their bikes demonstrated that a firmer surface can provide longer-lasting comfort if the seat is shaped correctly,” explained Cobb. “The new foam will save weight while providing enhanced comfort for long rides and high volume training.” The $170 Max weighs 255 grams and is readily identified by its distinctive shape.

And the new HC170 ($180) is a minimalist racer’s saddle with a narrower front end than the other models in the Cobb line. It weighs just 170 grams but packs all the biomechanical engineering of the entire V-Flow line.

BMC signs Cadel Evans, joins Hincapie and Ballan for 2010

The BMC Racing Team today announced the signing of current World Professional Road Champion Cadel Evans to a three year contract. This partnership will create mutually beneficial opportunities for both the current World Champion as well as the BMC Racing Team.

“Cadel brings a wealth of experience in the Grand Tours to the team.” BMC Racing Team President Jim Ochowicz stated. “As I said earlier, our team will have multiple chances to measure ourselves against the greatest teams in the world. We are pleased that we will have the opportunities to send out our most successful riders, now including Cadel Evans, to tackle these challenges,” Jim Ochowicz added. Cadel Evans compliments the current team roster that consists of seasoned professionals and young emerging talents.

Winning a Grand Tour
Cadel Evans took second place in both the 2007 and 2008 Tours de France. Now Cadel Evans wants to win a Grand Tour. “Cadel Evans heard about how our team was expanding by signing big-name riders like George Hincapie, Alessandro Ballan, Marcus Burghardt, Karsten Kroon and other strong racers, and this news immediately fired him up with the idea of riding for such a flexible, engaged and passionate team,” explained BMC Bicycles owner and BMC Racing Team co-owner Andy Rihs. The thirty-two year old Australian cyclist who lives in Switzerland is looking forward to building a newly fortified program with the BMC Racing Team. Cadel Evans believes the BMC Racing Team will help him accomplish his goal of winning a Grand Tour.

A great opportunity
The signing of Cadel Evans is not only an enormous chance for the BMC Racing Team but is also a great move for the current World Champion. “A great opportunity has come for me to join a growing team of like minded individuals at BMC. I look forward to working with the BMC group toward the same goals including the Tour de France. I see the BMC Racing Team as a growing but very well structured and organized Team”, an enthusiastic Evans said about his new employer. “Obviously, I would like to do better than my two second places at the Tour de France”. For Director Sportif John Lelangue, it is clear that the team is now established in a way that they will be able to be competitive in every major race of the season.

“We have a plan to go to the biggest races, including the Grand Tours. That includes the Tour de France,” he said. “This will be possible since our sporting level has greatly increased in standard.”
Huge motivation

For BMC, as a manufacturer of high-end bicycles, this surprise signing is a huge step forward. “We want to increase BMC awareness, popularity and sales worldwide. By signing Cadel Evans, we have laid the groundwork to promote the brand not only in Australia but around the world. We have now put our cards on the table and hope to be on the start line in the 2010 Tour de France,” according to Andy Rihs. “The current World Champion, Cadel Evans, as a BMC Racing Team member, will be giving his input into the advancements of our high-end product range which is an enormous opportunity for the company since for the best riders, only the best equipment is good enough,” stated Mike Hürlimann, BMC CEO. “Having a rider like Cadel under contract will be a huge motivation for us. We will enthusiastically aspire to stay true to our traditionally cutting edge innovations and work daily to make the BMC brand as good as it can be. ”

Ironman Floridaa 2009

This past weekend Eric Bernard and I drove over to Panama City for the Ironman. We ended up running the Penalty tent in transition. No we did not make a bunch of new friends but it was interesting. Neither one of us were signing up for next year so we were out supporting a good group from Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles and Monroe. Neil Rome from Baton Rouge PR’ed with a time of 10:36, Amy Simonetta, a Pro and customer from Monroe had a time of 10:07. First timer John Storment got in with a 13:37 and Kerry Behrens finished with a time of 15:22. A couple of brothers from Lake Charles, Miguez boys had some impressive times also. From Lafayette Ria Bertels did a 12:14 followed by Dodd Foreman in a time of 12:24. Wendy Blankenship was chasing a demon from last year and fought it again this year. She had serious stomach issues from mile 70 of the bike and had to bail 13 miles into the run, she will be back for some more. Also ran into Patience Morvant from New Orleans, she was having a great race. Congrats to all the racers, we had a great time working the race with Will Jones, Sam LeBlanc, Dave Suter, Scott Guidry and Susan Hayden.

2010 Helmets arrived!

The 2010 line up of helmets has come in this week.
Many new styles and colors to choose from.
Please stop by and make your choice,
in order to stay in step with "The King/Queen of the Parking-Lot" -competition..
Needless to say, it would not hurt to inspect a 2 year old helmet up-close,
often some minor damage might have occurred and for safety reasons alone,
replacing it might be a wise thing to do.
Helmets are relative cheap,
especially considering the injuries they can prevent ;)
